Because spring is also a verb, Summer and Autumn aren't.
I think it's ridiculous purely because of the verb association. Summer, Autumn and Winter have one meaning, and whether positive or negative, they work as name with connotations fitting with their season. Spring on the other hand has got the alternative meaning of 'to leap or jump' which, while not a terribly poor association, could get confusing and difficult in day-to-day life.

I agree, it doesn't make a very good name - also because of the other noun meaning an elastic coil of wire.
And the word just doesn't have sounds that are frequent in names. There are so few Spr-names (like none), and also one-syllable -ing names, that it seems to adapt less well to being a name than the other seasons do.
There are worse names though IMO ... like Ryder and Chase and Puck and Nyx and Lux and Felicity.

It is a name, though. There was an actress named Spring Byington, who was given the name when she was born in 1886. It's in the BtN database, and it was in the US top thousand from 1975 through 1979, though granted no higher than #624.
Will, Tad, Frank, Chad, Nick, Mark, Grant, Don, and Bob are all words, also, and the last five are verbs.
I understand not liking it because it just makes you think of the meaning of the verb. That's one of the reasons I hate Frank--it makes me think of unappetizing boiled hot dogs. But that's different than saying it doesn't work as a name. I can see saying that if someone asked about a word that has no history of being a name, but Spring does.
