Ludmila is lovely. I'm so bored of Milly though, which some people might try to use. I think the vibe is strong, feisty but feminine. Ludmila takes no nonsense.

i would say mee-la, not mil-a, so i wouldn't use Milly as a nickname (though i know for certain i can't count on everyone in the US saying it the first way), and i don't like Milly much anyway. i'd use Lída or Mila probably.
