[Opinions] BAs from 2017 in rural NSW, Australia
The trends in rural areas in Australia tend to be a little different than in the cities in my experience so I always find them interesting. 2017 is all about A and L names, and I'm extremely surprised that there is not a single William.Aaliyah Katie Joyce

I'm glad someone does :) It takes me awhile to record them all as I go through even though I look at them for my own enjoyment.Indigo is ridiculous with Violet but I know a couple of Indigos and it's ok on its ownAaryan - one letter from "Aryan" - both Aaryan babies are of Indian origin. It's not uncommon among children of Indian descent in AustraliaHuksly - what on Earth is this? - pretty sure it was a "fun" take on Huxley *eye roll*Olee-May - if you say this with a Swedish accent, it almost sounds like "hold me tight", lol - This made me LOLKeep in mind that some of these people are "hillbillies" even if I don't use that word. Many live in some of the most remote places in developed countries...sometimes a 10 hour drive from a city and in their town of 400 people, they might be a 3 hour drive from the closest "city" of 10,000. It's part of what makes the names they pick so interesting. It's also the reason I respect the hell out of many of them because they 'make do' with very little and all the schooling in the world won't prepare you for the problem solving and knowledge many need to just get by in life. But they do go for an eclectic mix of names!

Wow. Except for the few classics and non-European-origin names, this list is just American tryndeeness times 10. I'd honestly have guessed these names were from Utah or Idaho; they just scream "rural American." BTW, I'm curious about Nixon. Is there any reason why it's so popular in Australia? Pop culture, local public figures, etc.? It's just hard to imagine why Australians would want to name their kids after one of America's worst presidents. The few names on this list that I like:Theodore James "Teddy" -- love Teddy as an NN!
Matthew Robert Alexander
Madeline Estelle -- love this!
Marcus Elias
Matilda June
Kiyaan
James Alan
George Arthur
Inayat
Henry Douglas
Hannah Michele
Grace Lorraine
Edward James

I wouldn't call Nixon popular but I think there are two mentions of it in this list simply because it fits with the current surnames for boys trend and it has the -on ending and it doesn't demand to be shortened. I doubt any of the people using it have a strong association with Richard Nixon. Rural Australia is interesting to me because they seem to go either very traditional and old-fashioned or very trendy. I've also noticed that many dated male names or male names with feminine associations seem to be used more frequently (two of those births had fathers called Aubrey). Some towns also seem to have their own trends that are totally not the national average each year or two. I guess the towns are so small that they all hear a name and then like it? The Arlie/Airlie thing was all going on in one town.

Nixon is definitely getting very popular! I know half a dozen.I think it's gotten popular because of the surf/skate brand Nixon (Just like Oakley).

Good call!I didn't even know about that brand till right now haha. I think that could have an impact for sure, as well as fitting in with popular sounds (-x endings for boys are in fashion such as Lennox, Maddox, Knox, Hendrix etc) and surnames as fns are in too, especially ending in -on or -an.

Ready to tackle this! I like:
Adeline Joan (Bayne sounds like Bane, like the villain from Batman... not a fan)
Alexander Edward (Lilly)
Amelia Isobel (Blake, Holly, Harrison and William)
Annabel Rita
Audrey Annette
Aurelia Matisse (Not a fan of the brothers' names though)
Charles Jack (Not big on Leonardo... it's nice to see someone use Charles instead of just Charlie though!)
Clara May (surprised Clara doesn't chart in NSW)
Cyrus John (only sibling names I like are Dominic and Sophie... the rest are way too trendy in comparison)
Duncan Phillip
Edward James
Elliot Charles
Elsie Florence
Eva
Georgia Faye and Georgia Grace
Grace Anne and Grace Mary
Hannah Elizabeth (Boring but still nice)
Harrison Adam (William)
