Are Juan / Juana / Juanita pronounced with a hard Kw sound? Because I've always heard Juan and Juanita said with more of a Hw sound.
I recently met someone whose name sounds like Kwanzaa without a Z, and I thought it was pretty/strong, so I wondered how it was spelled...I was guessing Kwana / Quanah / Quanna, but then when I looked up Juana and saw the pronunciation, I felt dumb.
Anyway, how do you pronounce Juana, and what do you think of it?
Also, wdyto Quanna (f) and Quanah (m)?

I never heard Juan or any of the associated names pronounced with anything like a kw sound.
I don't like Juana, because it sounds like, well, wanna. I do think Juanita is cute in a very retro way that's not likely to be back in style anytime soon; it's not even popular among Hispanics in the US and hasn't for a long time. Juan is still pretty popular.

I think this is a dialect difference not listed on here. I definitely don't know any Khwans just Hwans, and have met several hwanitas.

I pronounce Juana with a strong kh sound as in Spanish although I know that the more spreaded sound is with a soft h from Latin America.
I've never seen the Q varant but I admit that if we follow the Spanish sound of Juana (kh) this is very close to a q sound! This is interesting! XD
I would use simply Quana as a future Latino variant of it. It is not so bad!
