The first time I heard this name was in a modern dubbed version of Heidi. Clara and Heidi decide to name the new foal Astrid. While I don't love the name I think it is a good choice. Aster is my least favorite nn because I think of Astor the American aristocrat from the early 20th century and it sounds masculine. I feel like Terri (or any spelling of this) would also work as a nn for some reason.
