[Opinions] Moraine
If you'd never seen Moraine before, would you assume that it was a 'legitimate' name or something that someone had made up? If you think it passes the "is it really a name" test, what do you think of it? :-) I've been into -aine names lately, like Romaine, Charmaine, Elaine, Germaine, Lorraine, and the sound of Moraine coincided nicely with the rest of them.
I should note that I do know what a moraine is, by the way. And if anyone is familiar with glacial topography, it might interest you to know that my boyfriend went to highschool with a kid named Tarn. :-)

The closest legit name I know of is Morena moh-RAY-nah a Spanish name.
It sounds to me like Morgaine without the g. It's not bad, though. I'm not really into -aine names, sorry.

It doesn't just remind me of the word, it *is* the word, as far as I'm concerned ... not the most appealing name-image, really.
I knew a Tarn once too. I like that one much better.
How about Mauraine?

Mauraine
Mauraine I kind of like, now that you mention it. I'm not big on tweaking spellings and such but I could live with that. Sound-wise I don't like Maureen, and visually I'm not huge on moraine, but smushing them together is a little more name, a little less geography.
I was banking on people not particularly knowing what a moraine was, but darn you all for not letting things sneak past you. :-)

Heh. For some reason I can't explain, that word was one that stuck in my head from the first time I read it. I still remember the photograph of a moraine in my text book, in fact. Weird. Maybe it's because the word sounds / looks so nice? I do like the -aine ending too.

I think of Kettle Moraine when I hear it. And I know that's some landmark or another, but I couldn't say what, exactly. ^^; I just know that Moraine sounds about as name-y as Glacier, to me.
Plus, it is close to Moron, a dangerous word to bear similarity to.
I like other -aine, names, though, and -ane names. Lorraine, Elaine, and Charmaine are especially charming.

You might even provide a Heaven for them. We need You for that. Hell we can make for ourselves.
Russ Feingold is a hero.

Charmaine
I think Charmaine is great, and I feel a little guilty for previously having considered it to be so ugly. I'm not usually big on Char- names, but that one I like.

It does remind me of moron. It also srikes me as being made up. Is it a name? Just because it sounds like one doesn't mean it is. Zemily sounds like Emily, but Zemily is not a name.
A moraine is essentially the pile of rubble that's been pushed along and deposited at the end of a glacier. :-) It's a noun, but not a name.

How lovely. Thanks!
Reminds me of Moron....don't like it!
I'd never guess it wasn't "real." I thought it was a name when I saw your post. It reminds me of all those you listed.
I think it seems normal to me because there is a street in my town called Morraine Street, and I know someone with a last name that sounds the same, spelled ddifferently.
But it seems like a legitamate name, kind of a cross between Moira and Lorraine, both of which I love!
All in all, nice!
jULiA!

I do not know what a Moraine is, although I'm still in school and may not have learned it yet. I will look it up after I finish this post.
I like the sound, but not the spelling. I too like -aine sounds, Elaine being my favorite. Moraine could grow on me.
