Bruce is still fairly popular here in Scotland. As for the name itself I’m not a fan. Despite being a Scottish name I think it sounds horrible in a Scottish accent. I like a lot of Scottish male names but Bruce is not one of my favourites.
I like the connotation to Robert the Bruce though (if you are unaware he fought for Scotland to keep their independence in the Scottish wars of independence.) I think he’s a great historical figure and I greatly admire what he did for my nation. So as for connotations go it’s not too bad.
