Help[Opinions] WDYTO Starlin?
Thoughts on Starlin? I saw it on a picture of a boy from the ‘70’s. I kind of like it for some reason. Do you think it’s better for a girl or boy?

I assumed it was a girl name at first.
There are too many ways to parse it...
-Starling but with "lin"
-Darlin' but with "star"
-Stalin (in any accent without hard r's)
-Star+lin as just a word and a namey suffix
-Carlin but with "star"
I don't like it but I could see using Starling on a cat or something.

Well, it's one letter away from being Stalin. It *is* Stalin, in a British accent. That's a... Pretty negative point.
But that aside, it still sounds pretty vapid to me.

It would be pronounced exactly the same as Stalin in many accents and I think we can all agree that is NOT A GOOD THING!

It's a regional accent thing. I didn't think of it at all - the R is very distinct in my accent.
I do think of Lenin when I hear Lennon though - also an accent thing, I guess.

That's interesting that it was used in the 70's... the only Starlin I've ever heard of is Starlin Castro who plays for the Cubs (actually Yankees now, I just checked!) and I remember being taken aback when I saw his name. It's just very odd and made-up sounding... even Starling would be better. Just bad overall if I'm honest.

It's okay. Does remind of Sterling, starling, and darlin', and so it sounds country-style to me which isn't my thing. I think it sounds more like girls' names do... but it works either way I guess. Seems surnamey on a boy, invented on a girl. I like Star (g) and Carlin (g), so I guess I like the sound of Starlin too, but ... eh... yeah I'd like it if I met one, but wouldn't put it on my own list. Could so easily be Starlyn (yuck).

Sounds like “darlin’” to me. Feel indifferent to it. The only person I can think of is the Starlin Castro from the Miami Marlins, so I’ve only ever thought of it as a guy name, but I can see it on a girl, too.

Strong dislike, sounds like something one would hear at a trailer park, sibling to Honey Boo Boo, or Starfire Moonrock... :(

It sounds trendy and made up, like someone took the word starling and added a trendy -in ending. I think it could work for someone of any gender, but I wouldn’t use it because it does sound very made up.
