I had a dream that I had a son and named him Oliver. It's kind of funny, because my husband would never go for it.

Oliver is overused and at this point very boring.

I like Oliver very much, but I'd only ever use it as a mn because I view Ollie with shudders of dread. So, just about any name that doesn't end in -er would do nicely as a fn: not Alastair, Peter, Trevor etc.
Of the similar names, I far prefer Oliver (which to me is Cromwellian rather than food item), then Olivia which is a bit too frilly for me but is a family name, and I don't enjoy Olive at all, although my distant relative who was named Olivia chose to be known as Olive, silly lady.

I like Oliver, though I wouldn't use it as it's too common. I think a lot of names work well with it for a mn, just depends on your tastes.

I think Oliver is a gross-sounding name. It slithers in the mouth like the liver it contains. And sounds like "all over."

I really enjoy Oliver. It bounces off the tongue in a nice way, and I tend to like names with L's and R's. If I were to use it, which is not outside the realm of possibility since Will likes it too, these are the combos I would consider:

When I was about 15-18, I was totally set on naming my firstborn Oliver. Then I changed my mind, and now I'm really liking it again. It's absolutely on my list (but so are about 170 other boys' names..). I like that it's friendly, works well on a child, but it's also a somewhat classic, at least in the US.

I feel like the only person in the world who can only think "olives" when I see or hear Oliver and the only person in the world who objects to it for that reason. And I love olives. I would imagine it would be worse for (what seems like) the majority of people who hate them, but noooooo.

Oddly, it does that to me too - even more than the name Olive. And Oliver makes me think of olives in martinis, particularly - rather than just olives. Probably because the name Oliver was very unusual when I was growing up, and when I heard it I connected it with the word because there wasn't much else to connect it to. And I first encountered olives in martinis, too. My parents' martinis, that is.
It's not what turns me off the name - I just don't like the sound of it in my accent. Sounds like all over, I'll love her, all of her.

LOL, that's how I was first introduced to olives, too---my mother would always give me the olive out of her martini. (My father put lemon twists, not olives, in his martinis.) I grew up eating gin-soaked olives. I could have done without the gin flavor but I still liked the olives.

It makes me think of olives too, but that’s a good thing for me. Of course I also love the name Olive so ...

I used to really like Oliver, but now it’s extremely popular and definitely has a reputation as a “trendy kid name,” which would lead me to avoid it. I still think it’s a handsome name, though, and unlike a lot of trendy names does work well for an adult (actually met an adult Oliver not too long ago, he’s about 22-24).

I love Oliver, although I’ve gotten kind of sick of it. I’d consider as a middle name for sure though. It’s just so handsome. I met the sweetest kid named Oliver about a year ago, and that helped too.
My first thought it Oliver Michael but that’s a total snooze fest. Oliver Arden. Olive Garden, hahaha. Okay.
