Ooooh, this looks interesting! I love the Middle Ages (Plantagenets are my jam)!
House of Wessex
H [29]: King Philip Arthur Fulk
W [22]: Queen Edith Adeliza (formerly of Northumbria)
D [3]: Princess Eleanor Agnes Berengaria
S [1]: Prince Geoffrey Fulk Edmund
EDIT: I'm providing a plot!
An Unexpected Match
King Philip I of Wessex and Mercia, an only child, has had his hands full in his young reign. He inherited the crown at the age of eleven when his father, King Fulk III, died suddenly. (His death has long been suspected to be from poison, but there was never any proof.) From then on, Philip was under the tutelage of his uncle Guy, Duke of Bath, who served as regent till he came of age. At the age of nineteen, King Philip fought valiantly in the Battle of Oxford (Oxenaforda) in 1163, in which Mercia was conquered and added to his crown. Eschewing the strategies of the previous William the Conqueror, he ruled the common people of the new territory benevolently in order to inspire loyalty, and through these "small folk" was able to sniff out many conspiring Mercia nobles. It would appear that Philip flourished under his uncle's regency.
Originally, Guy of Bath wanted his nephew to marry his daughter, Margaret, and solidify the family's influence in the realm (though many guessed rightly it would only increase his influence in the realm). Other advisers thought that Juliana Courteney, niece of the former Mercian king, would be a more prudent choice in order to appease Mercian nobility. King Philip put the decision off until he was 25, quite late for a monarch - but he surprised everyone by entering into negotiations with the Northumbrians, proposing a marriage between himself and Princess Edith, then 18, to foster friendlier relations with their northern neighbor.
Edith (Eadgyða), the youngest child of the King & Queen of Northumbria, was also the most rebellious. At a young age she was sent to an abbey and expected to take holy orders - though while her intellect flourished under the tutelage of the nuns, her questioning spirit remained unbreakable. Right when she was expected to take vows, the Abbess threatened to brand her a heretic for her skepticism. Rather than frighten him away, news of this intrigued King Philip I of Wessex, and he entered negotiations with her family. Angry at such a decision being made without her even meeting her future husband - at her future always being stolen from her - she escaped the abbey in the middle of the night and traveled fifty-five leagues to the castle at Bath to confront the king himself and give him a piece of her mind, in hopes that the scandal would dissuade him entirely. To her consternation, her forceful yet erudite arguments and disheveled appearance only amused the king; and of course he asked her a few tricky questions to prove she really was Princess Edith of Northumbria. Instead of judiciously ending the betrothal, King Philip dubiously granted her lodgings within the castle and sent word to the Northumbrians of their youngest's whereabouts. Over the next couple months, relations between them were kept cordial, and the initially stubborn Princess Edith accepted the betrothal. By the end of the year they were married, and she was crowned Queen of Wessex.
While the court has remained publicly cordial but privately hostile toward Queen Edith (since she was chosen over Lady Margaret, or Lady Juliana, depending on one's allegiance), the past four years have carried on relatively smoothly. Edith first birthed a daughter, Princess Eleanor, named after King Philip's late mother. Her parents have taken to calling her Nell. Two years later Wessex gained an heir to the throne with Prince Geoffrey, named after Edith's late eldest brother who would have inherited the Northumbrian throne had he not succumbed to scarlet fever (as it is, Prince Reginald is heir to King Melchior & Queen Rohesia). He is being called Geoff.
