What do you think of Medea? Is it usable?

I like it, but I'd pick Amedea over it, because I think that's very similar and avoids most of the issues.

It’s beautiful, but she killed her own children! That’s a crime so unforgivable and disgusting that her name should NEVER be used, imo.

I think it's usable (though you'd have to be prepared for a certain amount of negativity) but I don't like it because it sounds like M'dear

It’s too strongly associated with the Greek myth to be usable. Shame, as the look and sound are pleasant.

First I think of Medea, wife of Jason and murderer of their children ... not the happiest myth to be associated with. And then I think of the Flanders and Swann number, 'Have some Madeira, m'dear', which is hilarious but also not something you'd want to follow you around all your life.

I love her, but she’s a big guilty pleasure for me. Even if I can get over the connection, I don’t want it to be the first thing people think about. I do love the sound and overall feel though. I considered spelling it Medeia, which I still have on my list, but the sound is the same and the association there, so I wouldn’t try it personally.

I like the sound (me-DE-a) and the meaning of Medea. But, I know the tale about her (and the play of Euripides, which is quite popular) and therefore I would not use it.

I like it and think it's pretty, but it reminds me of media and there will likely be pronunciation issues. I think it could be usable though.

No, not usable. There's no history behind it as a name except for the Greek myth, and that's not a positive association at all. And it's likely to be confused with Media, or with Tyler Perry's M-Dea character.
