I like it as a gp. I have run into it on birth announcements.

This would be cute for a pet, but this does not work in real life. It’s a made up name that’s a pun of “vanilla” and “Penelope”.

As others have said, it would be a pretty bad choice for a real girl, but for a small pet (ie cat, small/toy breed dog, rabbit ect) it would be kind of cute.Unfortunately, 304 girls were named Vanellope in the U.S. between 2013 & 2017. 47 in 2017, 49 in 2016, 68 in 2015, 78 in 2014 & 63 in 2013.

Wow! Thank you for the data! I love statistics!

Hi!If I came across a girl named Vanellope I would feel bad for her. I like it better for a pet. I think it would be cute on a hamster.

There was a discussion on Vanellope around the time Wreck It Ralph came out on this board, most people hated it. Honestly, I’ve always had a soft spot for it. It sounds elegant and pretty to me, as most names with “el” in them do.I’d love it on a pet. Skeptical about it on a human, but I think I’d like it.

Hi !!!I agree with you.
Despite being a madeup it has surely a better sound that Penelope.I like it because it reminds me Vanilla (of course) but also 'velluto' (velvet in Italian). All together these links make it a creamy, soft name. Obviously the character is far from it and that is the real problem. If the character were an elegant, beautiful princess the name would fit her but in the movie she denied any princess-y link.

I actually like Penelope, lol! The velvet connection is beautiful, I bet more people would find it appealing if they had the same link to it. I haven’t seen the movie, which could obviously alter my opinion.

I'm sorry but I thought 'vanilla pee' :/ At the same time I kind of wanted to say VAN-eh-lope (three syllables) and then it reminded me of antelopes. It seems to be a combination of Vanessa and Penelope? I dislike those two names already and the combination is worse. Renesmee also came to mind...

The first element is derived from the word vanilla, so it's a combination of vanilla and Penelope. If you've seen Wreck-it Ralph, you'd probably remember that Vanellope was from a racing game that had a candy theme.

I have never seen it, but thank you for the explanation :)

I'd probably try hard to hold myself back from laughing if I saw it on a child. It sounds ridiculous on a human. Some pop culture names should stay in pop culture.A pet, on the other hand, I wouldn't have a problem with.

I've never seen that movie. Did you enjoy it?Vanellope works pretty well for a mash-up name and it's fun to say. Elly, Nelly, Nella or Pipi for NNs.I would assume that a child named Vanellope was named by their sibling. I don't think it would overly hinder them though.
A pet named Vanellope would work well. I think it would be better for a cat or bunny... not a dog, because it's a bit of a mouthful to shout out.

My little sisters use to think my aunt's dog Penelope was named "Vanilla-pe."
That was cute. But a real "venellope" would be pretty bleh. It's cutesy and cheesy and barely works for the film, imo, much less real life.

A human Vanellope: I would think, did they let their six-year-old pick that name with no rules attached?
Pet Vanellope: if that animal is any color other than white, I'd think, oops, missed the mark.

Why the colour white only? The vanilla part or something else?
