It can definitely stand on its own. I don't love it nor do I hate it. It is kind of cute and feminine.

I knew a Tessa (full name) and she was odd, so that colors my perception of the name. I think it's an odd name. It sounds like the name of an alien from outer space.

Nickname purist me says it should be a nickname for Teresa and not used on its own.

I've known plenty of Tessa people, all of them actually named Tessa, and plenty of Theresa and Teresa people, all of whom went by the full name, with one exception who preferred Tessa.

I like Tessa very much, enough to use IRL; I don't enjoy T(h)eresa at all.

I do think of it as a nick for Theresa, but I don't expect real Tessas to be Theresas.

I don't like Tessa. I used to, because it seemed fresh and simple. But then I realized that in real life, on a real person, I feel like it seems stuck up and prissy and bratty. It's like Kate. Nice name, but the feeling it gives me is unappealing.

I think of it as a name on its own, I'd actually be surprised to see it used as a nn for Teresa where I live.
It has the same vibe as names like Sophie, Sophia, Ava, Ada, and Jenna (somewhere between young, fluffy, trendy and almost dated.

I think Tessa is a super cute underused name!

I don't think of Tessa as a nickname - it's one of those "diminutives" that has, imo, become its own name (like Sally).

I like Tessa quite a bit. Though I do go back and forth on whether I prefer Tessa or Tess.

I love it and know a Stephanie that goes by Tessa.

I like Tess and think that works fine on its own. Tessa reminds me of 'countessa', so seems a bit more frilly, but I think it's okay on its own.

Tessa is a nice name, especially on its own. I know a Teresa with a granddaughter called Tessa though little Tessa didn't get her name because it was her grandmothers name. Not my favorite, but it is nice.

I like it on its own and only recently I found that it could be related with Theresa. I dislike Theresa so the link has no sense in my mind.

In Italy Tessa was used in 2017 for 82 babies so it is known but enough unusual to not be boring.
