A friend of mine had a baby recently, a daughter named Elsie Joy. She joins big sister Claire.

A new friend of my kids is named Hennessey, she's a girl aged 8.

Elsie Joy is cute!

I can never make up my mind about Claire. I love the sound and look, but I also get sightly dull and dated vibes from it.

Hennessey is a GP, partly because I heard it as a car brand (not a particularly major one) well before hearing as a fn.

Elsie Joy is really cute! Elsie and Claire make a nice pairing.

Hennessey is too surname-y. At least she has some nickname options like Nessie and Henna though.

Elsie Joy is ok, it is nice, but the middle name is rather boring. It goes well with Claire.

Hennessey is a surname to me. Unless it is a family name or you are using it in honour of a saint/religious figure, I think it just looks silly. I don't know your friend and the reasons she used it. I can see the appeal, it does have a pleasant sing songey sound.

I saw Hennessey on a cashier's name tag last year, and my first thought was, "That actually sounds kind of neat." (I think someone had recently asked opinions about Henny on here, and I'd said it was really ugly or something, so that reaction surprised me). I liked it less after I looked up it and realized it was alcohol, but I can see the appeal.

Elsie Joy and Claire are bland but pleasant.

I had a friend in grade school named Fennessey. Tbh I like the sound of Hennessey, I understand how someone could like it so much that they name their child as such.

Elsie is cute, though limp. Joy is a filler obvi. But it's a good happy meaningful filler. Claire is nice as a FN.

The rapper Cardi has a sister called Hennessy Carolina so that is one person with the name. Never been big on naming kids after booze really and it might lead to some teasing (then again, a name like Bailey, also a surname is okay, but whatever the parents like. Elsie Joy is pretty though.

It is odd. I don't associate this with alcohol as much, nor do I associate Bailey as an alcoholic beverage, I do think the latter has a dreadful meaning, especially for a girl. Maybe because I know so many people who have those 2 names as surnames that I automatically just think "surname" vs "alcohol."

Elsie Joy is ok. Nothing wrong with it. It is "classic": neither boring nor surprising.

What is its origin?

I much prefer Hannelore, Nancy, Darcy or even Essie over it.

Hennessey is a surname (anglicized form of Irish Ó hAonghuis meaning "descendant of Aonghus"). It's also a brand of cognac.
