It does sound and look like a refreshing honour name for my grandmother, but other than that, I'm not much of a fan, particularly where sound is concerned.

I like it. For nicknames I like Kali, Kala, Kal, Lina, and Ina

There is a Kolina in my daughter's class. I like Kalina, although it's not something I'd use. I'd prefer not to tempt fate and use the nn Kali - it's also the name of the goddess of destruction.

Anyway Kalina Is a lovely name. It is natural but not too exotic. Infact if you see Kalina it can be from nearly every Germanic or Slavic language (sound and spelling).

I love Kalinka as I wrote because of the song. I strongly dislike Kali because it is too related with the Indian goddess in my mind.
