[Surname] Scottish surname can't be found?
I'm looking for the meaning and origin of the Scottish surname, Patterson.
I think it's vague translation is Pastors son. But I could be wrong since translation isn't really my thing.
I don't know the date it originated in, but I'm pretty sure it came from Glasgow; Scotland.
It's a branch of another Scottish surname, Smart. But I know less about that one.
The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to find my crest.

Patterson is a bog-standard English patronymic: Patrick's son. A gazillion totally-unrelated families bear this name around the world, some of them of Scottish origin, some of them not.
And it's nearly certain that you don't _have_ a "crest". Any website or company that tells you otherwise is fraudulently trying to sell you something. See for example https://www.fleurdelis.com/nofamilycrest.htm or https://www.college-of-arms.gov.uk/resources/faqs for some explanations.

you can go onto the Family Crest. org and look it up that is how my family did there's on both side of my mother and father sides
There appear to be several spellings to that surname, try dropping one of the t's or adding an 's' or you could try spelling it phonetically as: Patason or Pattason or Paturson. I don't know, but it's worth a try. Hope this helps.
