[Opinions] Unfortunate Initials and BA
I saw a BA today for a little girl named FenLeigh Anne P., the latter being the first initial of the surname. Unfortunately, her initials spell fap.

That's just awful, both FenLeigh and the kid's initials. That poor child.
"FAP" aside, FenLeigh is horrible but like.. Fenley would at least look like a normal name. Not very feminine though.
Disregarding the initials, FenLeigh is still a hideous name. Common initials I'd avoid are SA and SS, for obvious reasons.
Hopefully the term will go out of use before she's a teenager!
Overall I'm not a fan but at least they used the Anne with an E spelling.

Okay, fap is a funny sound, but am I missing something here? It's not like her initials were fat or jap or like that?
Never heard of it
I had to look it up.

never heard of this before
Me neither.
It comes from internet culture and Reddit I believe. I'm somewhat active on Reddit so I've definitely come across the term before lol
Probably the main reason I'm familiar with it is because one of my dear friends it's a gay male with an adolescent sense of humor. I also read a lot of British material and I think it might be used more in England?
Husband knew it right away and googling gives lots of results.

Nope, me neither
me either ...
Anybody can submit any word or made-up word they like to Urban Dictionary, and give it whatever new "meaning" they want.
Whoever submitted this "word" even misspelled the word it's supposed to define.
So yeah, not outraged over the fact this kid's initials spell out FAP. Now if I start hearing people saying it (which I doubt I will) I might change my mind.

Oh, it's definitely a thing on the Internet. It was created on Reddit I'm pretty sure. If you're a heavy user of the Internet, you'll come across it sooner rather than later.
Fap is a very common internet slang word. It's not just one of those urban dictionary random things.
ETA: if you were around Reddit during the rage comics phase you'd definitely hear it a lot.

Nope, it’s definitely a universal euphemism that’s been all over the internet and back. You must have just missed it.
The good news is, I think it’s going to be a slang term that explodes and then dies just as quickly, like “cowabunga”, and not one that sticks around for an annoyingly long time like “bling”.

It’s not uncommon. It’s actually in the Oxford dictionary.

Kids are going to be far more familiar with the word than adults.

Well unless you're hanging around teenagers/early-to-mid-20s dudes who are very comfortable around you, you probably wouldn't hear it. But it's a common term in the US among young men lol. I've heard it quite a bit.
Yep.
I know my husband knows it as well. Apparently it's mostly used on the internet and by young adults. I'm definitely familiar with it from the internet, I haven't really heard it IRL. Read it plenty of places though.

That is true. I work with men in their 20's, and that's where I heard it.
Among young men lol
And I oop-
And I oop-
What am I wrong lol.
No, I just thought it was funny how you worded that.
Oh yeah lol. It sorta came across like I was trying to talk in scholarly way about the usage and demographics of the word "fap". I hope some Soc major has written a paper on "fap" and "fapping" lol
Er...
Maybe that's why they capitalized the L, so she can be FLAP instead
Well clearly her name wasn't given much thought. 0____o I mean 'Fenleigh' is bad enough (seriously, what even is that??) but not realizing what the initials spell out makes me question the parents cognitive state.
Lord help the girl if any of her future classmates ever found out her middle name when they're older. It doesn't look pretty. Poor girl. Hopefully she ends up having more sense than her parents and is able to legally change her name. (FenLeigh)
