For boys:
Marco,
Carlo,
Mario,
Ivo and
Nico are widely used in the Netherlands and are Italian as well. Italian names that don´t end in a vowel like
Alex,
Oscar,
Ivan,
Walter. Some typically Italian names are known in the Netherlands as well and wouldn´t cause any issues:
Luca,
Gianni,
Giovanni,
Antonio,
Armando,
Guido,
Manuel,
Matteo,
Raul,
Raoul,
Rocco. Being
Dutch, I´d personally go with
Marco or
Oscar in their situation.
Only ones that would really be silly in
Dutch:
Andrea (strictly feminine in the NL),
Pino (Big Bird in Sesame Street in the NL),
Peppi,
Tito. The Italian names that give spelling trouble in English are the ones that would give trouble in
Dutch as well.
I´ll try and add feminine suggestions later.
