I like it, but I think it's too long for a first name, and it has so many variations it would be difficult to spell.
The most obvious nickname is probably Sherry, which doesn't sound very good IMO. Maybe you could get away with Hera? Scheherazade nn Hera would be awesome. Zadie might work too.

I think Scheherazade is beautiful and fabulous - plus, it has a built-in melody that comes with it. But you're right about nicknames. That's a consideration that wouldn't have occurred to me. None of the obvious nicknames really appeal to me.
