I find it a bit dowdy and dated too, but I think that's a minor thing. If I met a little Kathleen, I wouldn't recoil in horror or anything. I wouldn't use it for a contemporary story because it does sound a bit out of place since it was used quite a bit more prominently in a different decade. However, if someone loved it for a baby, I don't think they should have to not use it.
