Help[Opinions] Wdyt of Casanova?
Once had a waiter with this name! It's stuck in my head ever since. I think i love it exactly because it's a bit much, lol. And yet just going by sound alone it still flows nicely enough imo.
He said it as though Casanova was simply his first name, but i suppose it could have potentially been a nickname of some sort, maybe an I-go-by-my-surname sort of deal. Cool either way.
So i'm just curious what y'all think! Too out there for you? Perfectly out there? Good as a nickname/surname? As a full first name? Cas or maybe Cass or Nova as a potential nickname for it - or do you have a better one? Maybe you like Casanova alright enough as a name but wouldn't use it to name anyone yourself? Those are just wild stabs - i wanna hear your actual thoughts!
Edit: Reading the responses here, my opinion of this name has actually changed considerably!
Something about encountering a real person with a certain name makes it a lot harder for me to see that name in a negative light. I was also influenced by the facts that i personally am only collecting names for naming fictional characters (not always seriously, sometimes even just for sims & such, but i just really like seeking out interesting names in general), & this person was an adult. When i think about it, i couldn't imagine ever feeling exactly ok about naming a child this - but considering most people get their names because someone picked one out for a baby, that's definitely not something to overlook! At least not in any case where i'm trying to be realistic (which is exactly why i asked here, for that valuable general opinion.) I was somehow thinking of it as simply a name for an adult, which i know is entirely ridiculous because i swear i do know adults don't exist in a vacuum. And i of course had already known it was awfully odd for even that.
I truly appreciate the responses, everyone! I'm quite embarrassed to have not even fully considered just how awful a namesake the historical Casanova makes, especially. I admittedly knew as little about him as is probably possible & just did not think to research. Which i definitely would have if i were seriously considering using it right away or anything. That memory just suddenly came back to me, and i was asking because i was considering just adding it to my list of names to consider. But i'm ultimately so glad for the thoughts. They really helped! Thank you all so much!

It’s like naming your child DiCaprio or Montenegro.
If it were your middle name, I would assume it’s your mother’s surname.

Casanova is weird but I like weird names just as much as normal names. if you love the name that much let no one prevent you from loving the name!

Nova is also a name I rather like, not a lot, but enough.
Casanova? You know if we remove the meaning entirely, it don't sound bad. However, I think it's worse than calling your kid Romeo, Valentine and even Venus. I like those three, but they've got a bit of a tie to them. Cassanova sounds like a stripper? and I don't mean that in a "[X] is a stripper name" way (because I disagree - nearly any name can be a "stripper" / "porn star" name), I mean it simply fits the bill.
I'm going to casually save this "name" and possibly use it on a cat at some point lmao

It sounds like a street name for a pimp. A pimp with very smooth manners but a pimp none the less. His real name would probably be Arnold or Roger.

I love the potential nicknames, but I could never be so bold as to name a kid this xD
Although, if I knew someone named this I get the feeling I would get used to it rather quickly, it doesn't seem that out there for me. But that's if they're an adult, I think meeting a child with this name would leave a worse impression because it sounds too cheeky and precocious.

I like a lot of Cas- names, but man, you may as well name the kid Playboy.

The historical Casanova is hardly a recommendation! I'd feel extremely sorry for any child whose parents gave him that name.
