North, as a name, would make me expect four siblings, of either gender since the compass is gender-neutral, with the others named South, East and West. But I'd be equally ready for the first three - North, South and East - to be the same gender, and then the sequence would be broken and the sibset would be North, South, East and Jacqueline. Or North, South, East and Jedidiah.

Honestly? It’s tacky, and looks purely masculine to me. I would much prefer a name that means “north”, like Norton, Norris, Norbert, or Uttara.

I think it's cool, and I see it unisex. I like the nn Nori. Realistically, I would possibly use it as a middle name and not as a first name.

Don't like, and yes it would associated with Kardashian

I knew a guy named Worth. It's only one letter off from that. His actual name was Wentworth, though.

If I reach, it reminds me of Nora, Noor, Norm, Norbert, River, Star. I'd prefer it to at least half of those.

It's a little eccentric, but I don't think it's something I would really pay attention to if I encountered it for either gender. I don't love it; I don't hate it. I forgot about the celebrity baby.

I like North and prefer it on a boy. I see it as a modern geographical name on one hand and a timeless surname turned first name on the other. It's been occassionally used in the past on boys, so it's not that Kim and Kanye "invented" it, although North West would most likely be people's first association.

North can also be a nice NN for Northrop or Northwood (rare SN-type first names).

It wasn't a celeb name to me because I used to be acquainted with a guy named North.
It seemed like a "normal unusual" name to me. But, for a guy. Not for a girl. I do not like it for a girl at all. It's far more of a surname-name than a nature-word-name.
I think if I did really like it as a name and wanted to use it - it would be ruined now by the celeb link.

It fits into my style (simple unisex word/nature names) really well, but I wouldn't want every first response to the name to be "oh, like North West?" Frustrating!

From a data perspective it's really interesting that North hasn't seen any increase in usage since 2013 (except occasional use for girls, like 6 and under in the US).

My first thought is of the movie that Roger Ebert really, really, really hated.

It's not the greatest name, but it's not the worst either IMO.

I was a geography major and I think geographical names are neat, and of the cardinal directions I think North makes the best name. I wouldn't use it as a first name, though, because of the association with the Kardashians and Kanye, which is unfortunate. Might make a cool middle name though.

I actually think of two other associations (besides the direction) before I think of North West. One, the main character in the book The Gracekeepers was a girl named North. Two, there's a musical artist called Sleeping at Last who I really enjoy, and he did an Atlas project with songs named/themed after things like locations and directions and planets, and so one of his songs is called North and I think about/listen to it all the time because it's gorgeous.

I’m sorry but I don’t care for it. To me, it’s literally just a name Kim K chose because Anna Wintour told her it’d be cool. Although there’s many words I can see as names, I just don’t see North as anything but a direction. I only think of one North, by the way, and she’s related to the first person I mentioned. (lol)

I like for a middle name not so much for a FN.

It feels like a masculine name, despite the association with a female celeb baby, which is pretty strong.

Generally I feel that names that are literally words should be really meaningful. Like if you name your kid Seven, it should be because you're really into numerology and you love the symbolism of seven. lol And if I met someone named North, generally, I would assume that the parents did not have that kind of association, because it's a pretty rare one. So I think I would be dismissive of it to see in real life.

I went to school with four or five girls with the name Noor (or Nour) and I always loved the sound. I thought North was cute but yes, it is now a joke celebrity name, not because the name itself is bad but because of the North West combination.

I think it could be a fun middle name. Then it comes across more as an explorer type name or quirky word name.

I think it's pretty much totally associated with the Kardashians now, because it really never got use as a first name till then, at least not enough that anybody registered it.
I think it's stupid, and doubly stupid because the Kardashian baby's last name is West, and they essentially made a joke out of the name. Because they're all about attention.
