Sorry, but it doesn't sound like a good name for a kid. All I can think of when I hear this is the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

I don't understand why anyone would use it when there are perfectly good names like Walburga and Berengaria and Torborg...

Jk, I can see the appeal. I think it's only slightly "uglier" than Berlin and Birch. It's got that same burly vibe and sounds like a place/nature name.

The biggest drawback is the famous concentration camp, which non-German/Dutch/Swedish/other? speakers might think of...but that's a big drawback.

Don't like it at all

It makes me think of the city too. But I was willing to give it a chance, after all place names are a thing. Half a second later I remembered it means "mountains" in Swedish and once that plural suffix hit me it won't go away. I'm not a fan of plural names. I have this issue with Peaches too. Plural names make me uncomfortable.

Not really a fan of it for a girl.

I think it's awful and especially horrendous on a girl. I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would name their son this, let alone a daughter.

I'm from New Jersey, so I think first of Bergen County, New Jersey, and then the town of Bergen in New Jersey. That's not a negative association, though. Mostly I think Bergen is bad simply because it's ugly and is close to the word "burger".

Now you've hit real absurdity! The ugliest, funniest sounding word ever, and it means "more than one mountain" in German. IT'S BAD

it just means "mountains" to me. It doesn't feel like a name at all to me. Since it's plural it doesn't even feel like a nature name the way River or Willow do.

You will find some people are not fans of surnames for first names but I like them and I like Bergen for a boy or a girl.
