I think there’s too much of an association with Hermione Granger, everyone would assume you named your child/character/pet after her, not just for the name. I always (and still do) pronounce it Her-my-nee, it’s close enough, right?

I can't agree. And I don't understand why anyone who knows the correct version of/way to do anything will persist with the wrong way. It makes no sense. Everybody is stupid in some ways, but why appear more stupid than you already are? It makes no sense. Unless it's a way to start a conversation? But there must be many others.
