[Opinions] Maybelle
What do you think of Maybelle? It’s a recent like of mine and I find it very sweet. I pronounce it like May-Bell, not like the name Mabel which I pronounce more like May-buhl. I see it more as a combo of May and Belle, not a variation of Mabel, since I pronounce them differently. Anyway, thoughts and how would you say it? I’m guessing it’s not going to get much love! ;)Sarah -

I actually like it. Do you like Maybelline? I would say May-bell too.

Weirdly enough, I love Maybelle (or Mae Belle or any pronunciation like your pronunciation!). I fell in love with it when I first read 'Bridge to Terebithia' and I love the movie too- it just made me love it more. I prefer it to Mabel. I think it's wholesome and feminine without being overly frilly. Like Eden said below, going by May or Mae later in life is an option if she wanted something shorter and less cutesy.

"I see it more as a combo of May and Belle, not a variation of Mabel"That’s exactly why I dislike it. It just looks like May and Belle slapped together. I don’t care for it.

I'd pronounce Maybelle as may-BEHL, and I much prefer Mabel. Maybelle just sounds like a combination of May and Belle.

I've recently met a little Mae Bell around age 7. She is a granddaughter of a coworker and a very gentle, polite girl. I think it's adorable. She has the option of just using Mae if she wants when she gets older.

I think Maybelle is very sweet. Old-fashioed, but not stale sounding. I recently just heard of Billie being a nn for Maybelle / Mabel which I also love. It would make a good mn, but I would be happy to meet a Maybelle irl.
