[Opinions] Bogdana
I've recently fallen in love with this Slavic beauty (basically the Slavic analogue of Theodora / Dorothea). I find it glamorous in an earthy, no-nonsense way. Are there any other admirers out there?
Some combos:
Bogdana Ariadna / Ariadne
Bogdana Beatrice / Beatrisa
Bogdana Bisera
Bogdana Carolina
Bogdana Cecilia / Cecily
Bogdana Eloise
Bogdana Eulalia
Bogdana Euphrasia
Bogdana Evelina
Bogdana Frederica
Bogdana Iolanthe
Bogdana Isabella
Bogdana Ishmaela
Bogdana Lavrentina
Bogdana Leontina
Bogdana Leopolda / Leopoldina
Bogdana Ludovika
Bogdana Millicent
Bogdana Raphaela
Bogdana Serafima
Bogdana Severina
Bogdana Silvia
Bogdana Thessaly
Bogdana Ursula
Bogdana Valentina
Bogdana Vasilisa
Bogdana Winifred
Any other ideas for combos?

Bogdana has some beautifully earthy feel, but... I don't really like the -dana part. Bogdan is good.
Bogdana Leopolda, and Bogdana Ludovika are good combos!

I’m from New York, so it kinda sounded and looked like Bodega for a quick second there. But anyways, the name is decent. Bogdana Eveline / Aveline would be an option.
Being a Slav I couldn't help the knee-jerk reaction of "it's ugly" but thinking about it I can see what you mean. I would give it a sickeningly sweet, short middle name. Bogdana Mae comes to mind. Bogdana Lily, Bogdana Amy, Bogdana Mollie, Bogdana Shelly are all lovely to me.

A name that sounds almost cartoonishly witchy? You know I'm here for that.
I want her to have a delicate, crystalline middle, so of your combos I like:
Bogdana Evaline
Bogdana Millicent
Bogdana Thessaly
I'd suggest:
Bogdana Evanthe
Bogdana Thomasine
Bogdana Evangeline
Bogdana Briallen
Bogdana Calanthe
Bogdana Celandine (I think this might be my favourite)
Bogdana Damaris
Bogdana Daphne
Bogdana Delphine
Bogdana Ethelinda
Bogdana Lindita
Bogdana Margalit
Bogdana Minodora (too much giftiness?)
Bogdana Trendafilka (her name sounds like a magic spell)

Bog is another name for toilet
Yes! I get what you mean by "earthy." Bogdana has a calm energy to it. I think it's a really lovely name and I love when I'm able to use it in BNGs. I'm not sure how usable it is outside of a Slavic country, but all it takes is one person to use it and then it's a hit : )
Bogdana Winifred is SO perfect. Bogdana Millicent is a close second.
A few other ideas that I think might fit in with your style: Bogdana Faustine, Bogdana Vasiliki, or Bogdana Mildred.

I love it. It's really pretty. The nickname Boggie would be cute on a little girl.
I very much dislike it, similiar to the view of many. Undoubtedly. It's one of the most unappealing names out there and it's easy to see why. It's also very harsh and heavy. Certainly the opposite of a weak and flimsy name but not in a good way.
Sure, bogs are cool, but I still wouldn't want the first half of my name to be "bog".
I think it's ugly, and harsh.

I like it for a character. It definitely sounds like a bog / swamp witch kind of name. It doesn't work with any delicate or predestrian middle names, it needs to be at least a little dark or abrasive.
I like:
Bogdana Euphrasia
Bogdana Ishmaela
Bogdana Ludovika
Bogdana Raphaela

For me, Bogdana and it's other Slavic-language variants like Bohumila, Božena, etc. don't work because it's literally like "god's gift" of "loving god" etc. I do really like Slavic names though, even the older, weirder ones that aren't in use much anymore.
These are the "rare" Slavic names (or Slavic derivatives of Western names) that catch my fancy. Not to use really, just because they're cool.
Amand
Aurelián
Azariáš
Cyprián
Erazim
Jimram
Zvonimír
Aglaja
Amadea
Amáta
Aristid
Eufrozína
Jorika
Polyxena
Priska

it's earthy all right ...
I mean, what's earthier than a bog?
I mean, what's earthier than a bog?
Exactly! I adore bogs :) :) :)
They're neat ecologically, but tend to be treacherous, full of bloodsucking bugs and decay, which makes them foul smelling and pretty miserable to be around by human standards.
It's one thing if it coincidentally matches a word in another language, but a bog is not something most people would want to be named after intentionally, in English.

What's adoring about toilets
Why not searching the internet to see if there's another meaning? It obviously costs less time than replying 'why adore toilets' to multiple people in this thread.
I hadn't heard a toilet called a bog before. In the United States, a bog refers to wet, spongy, poorly drained soil that is often acidic and full of accumulated plant material like peat and moss.
Bogs aren't called toilets where I live
I had no idea a bog was a toilet. I'm from the US.

Right, but now that you know, and realizing that in this global culture peoples’ children will travel or possibly emigrate to places where bogs are commonly associated with toilets, you can see how this would put a lot of people off. Even ones from the U.S.
Yes, I appreciate the enlightenment. I never said that I was considering this for a human child, however.
I never said you were either.
Me too. They're so beautiful and strange
How are toilets beautiful
I think they mean the other definition for "bog", which is: "wet muddy ground too soft to support a heavy body."
Like a marsh or swamp.
Like a marsh or swamp.
Yes, a marsh. I've never heard of a toilet being called a bog
ditto
To English-speaking ears it is hideous.

To your English-speaking ears, you mean :)
“The bog is a colloquial expression in British English for a toilet. Originally "bog" was used to describe an open cesspit and the word was later applied to the privy connected to it. More wide-spread is the usage bogroll, meaning toilet paper.“
I'm afraid that in British English, a bog is a toilet. So, yeah, some ears just hear what they're used to; mine included.
I want to like it, but keep hearing "Bog down-a" in my head.
It's considered very frumpy in Slavic countries. A name that an elderly working class woman could have, but not one bestowed on children nowadays.
Don't like it at all, especially the bog part, Bodana, Beaudana perhaps
Bodana and Beaudana aren't names, so I'm not interested. Thanks, though.
Bohdana sounds the same as those and is a variant. I think it's more approachable.

Bohdana doesn't sound the same as 'Bodana', the h is not silent and it's voiced.
Thanks for the correction; I should have said very similar.
I would read Bodana as bohdahna intuitively, but there's probably differences with accents.

It's hard to get past the bog part. Maybe I could admire it as a MN. Ludovika Bogdana
