So like many other people right now, the name Perseverance, as in the Mars rover, has been on my mind. I was wondering if it would work on a person, not that I’d actually use it on an actual child but I find it “namey “ in a Puritan virtue way, and it lends itself to the nicknames Percy or Perse.

As for the other rovers, Spirit and Sojourner have a history of usage and I just about see Ingenuity working, whereas Opportunity and Curiousity seem too literal and silly to be names for humans.

I don't care for it, reminds me of severe, and there are so many other Puritanical names to choose from.

I think it's neat, and Percy definitely makes it workable. Perseverance landed on my birthday, so I feel a kind of a connection to it.

I also like Chloe's idea of putting it in the middle name slot.

The name of the rover made me wonder what was so severe to get through, considering that it's the fifth one.
The "severe" part wrecks it for me personally. But it's not too bad as an unusual virtue name, namey enough - since like you say, Percy. Or Vera.

Hi Fiammetta!!!

I actually like Perseverance. I like its sound (in my list I have Perseo, Percy, Persis, Persephone..).

Then I think that it is as usable as Constance that has a similar meaning.

I like that some virtue-names will be used, I hope for humans too because a new rover on Mars is something new and every new goal is great to be celebrated.

Perseverance is a strongly positive virtue. It is great as a name far better than Virginia in my opinion.

Ironically I was actually reflecting on Perseverance just the other night! Not in a serious way but I was thinking what other "unusual" virtues could be names on a theoretical level. Perhaps for a person that was changing their name after some hardships in life could pick it for their middle to show they survived and came out on the other side :)

I think it definitely works, and I like the idea a lot, as a name....it seems very hopeful. I *love* the idea of neo-virtue names for the future. The only thing is that I know quite a few people who have trouble with this word and turn it into "preservance" or something along those lines, which would be frustrating as a first name. I think it would be fantastic as a middle name, as a nod to historical events. And honestly I think it would go beautifully with a lot of the names that are super popular right now:

Emma Perseverance
Oliver Perseverance
Charlotte Perseverance
Sophia Perseverance
Hugo Perseverance
