I like Jonquil exclusively from an association I have of seeing a production of "The Glass Menagerie", where the mother character, I can't remember her name, was remembering her youth as a Southern Belle and how gentlemen callers used to bring her jonquils because she had a craze for them one summer. So the word/name is very Southern Gothic to me, which I do enjoy. I agree that it is kind of grotesque, but that's also part of its "charm".
