Waldorf Astoria and Draco Malfoy's wife (I think that was her name).
Has a very posh, upper class feel but doesn't really feel like a name. More like the name of something expensive, a yacht or a restaurant, hotel etc.
No good nicknames either. Too long. I would choose something else.

I kinda like the sound of it.
And I'm not even bothered about the "ass story" thing because I can't hear that. It sounds like "a-STORE-ee-a" to me. I'm not stressing the first syllable, like in Astor or Aspen - the "ass" in those does bother me.
But... Astor is very American-money, to me. And Astoria is just a version of Astor.
I'm afraid that ruins Astoria for me.
It's not totally un-usable, if you assume widespread ignorance of the association, and I think you can. I'm sure there are a lot of names that I like, that have associations I wouldn't like, if I knew a bit more about them. I just happen to have these associations with Astor / Astoria. So, my opinion is a data point for you ... I'm not condemning.
If I met an Astoria, I'd just sort of sigh to myself and try to enjoy it, and assume that the namers didn't look into it.
Well ... it still sounds a little pretentious and I hate "Story" as a name ... so I probably would not enjoy it very much, but whatever.

I absolutely love Astoria and the nickname idea Story! Not necessarily quite for me but it's definitely way up there in terms of my top 30 for girls. I consider this name the spiritual sister to the name Arcadia and would absolutely die happy if I ever came across it on a set of sister twins.

It has a pretty sound but it is much too associated with the Waldorf Astoria and similar places.

Any child given this name in the USA will surely at some point have to endure teasing about the sound similarity to "ass story".
Now, being teased about one's name really is not the most horrible thing that can happen to a child. But I would think any parent who bestowed this name on a daughter would have to be able to explain to her a very good reason why she was given it -- maybe the parents met in Astoria, for instance. This is the sort of name where the parents would need to have a good "back story" to make the child proud of the name and endure the teasing.
