I was reminded of how ancient
Candace is the other day: I was in
London at the British Museum, and they have a mummy of someone named
Cleopatra, who was the daughter of
Candace. Thousands of years old! I love that it was a name for ancient queens.
I like how
Candace is so weirdly ancient-modern, and I even like that it has the silly "
Candy" nickname. I'm actually developing a fondness for this class of names that have a deep history but also a bimbo side. So stuff like
Tiffany,
Tamara,
Victoria,
Deborah,
Cassandra, uh.....I can't think of any more, but they are out there!
Of course, all the Candaces I've known have been awful. Mean Girls. Popular and cruel. Not blonde, interestingly.
Candace seems like a "blonde" name to me (well,
Candy does). I don't know if any of them spelled
Candace "correctly" though. I've known a Kandice, a Kandyce, and a
Candice....
I guess a masculine
Candace name would be something similarly ancient-modern-dated. Maybe.....Brian. Although that's not as ancient.
Rex? That's an old word that has become sort of cheesy and dated. Oh,
Justin! That's quite an old name, you'd never know it.
