I do love its campy glumness. Misericordia might work better as a name.
Child abuse
Please nobody name their actual child this. It's just too mean.

It’s terrible.
For a character, that’s really cool. Without the whole meaning of the word, Misery has a cool sound. For a real kid, it would be unfortunate, though.

I've never seen it used, but word names of all kinds are frequently used in African countries so I wouldn't be surprised to encounter it here. Most of the word names are more positive, though I've seen several examples of Last or Finish! Maybe Misery could be Last's unplanned younger sibling?
Misery is one of those words that is actually kind of attractive if you take away the connotations. But part of me also likes the darkness of the associations. It's like a very blunt Dolores. I enjoy the creepy whimsy of Puritan names (I thought the word name Silence was beautiful for years) and Misery has this in spades. I don't know if or how I'd use it.... even though the character Misery was good (I think she was actually the heroine of a series of romance novels?), the name has acquired the flavour of the movie villain, who had the ever so harmless name of Annie!

Wow...they must be miserable. Don't use this, please. Misery is a negative, depressing word.
I have no intention of using it myself. My choices are Howard, Felicity and Michael
Oh, those are nice.
I think any parent who names their child "Misery" deserves everything they get.
BTW, the movie "Misery" is based on a novel by the horror writer Stephen King.

I knew it was based on a novel but couldn’t remember the author. Thank you.
It's good for a fictional character. I like the look and sound.
