Just added this to my mental list of names to annoy my partner with.

It's 'derived from the Germanic elements frid "peace" and not "need".'

What do you think of it?

Fridenot is pretty epic. I'd probably pronounce it like "freed knot" and I bet I'd be very wrong.

I love Irene, Miran, and especially Wilfred and Winifred! Winifred is really growing on me. It's so eccentric.

Sounds like it would mean “Afraid not” (don’t be afraid).

Fenna and Pax are nice.

Afraid not doesn't mean don't be afraid, it's just a polite way of saying 'no' or 'sorry, no'. Afraid in this case is basically a synonym for sorry.

Can colloquially just be said as 'fraid not.

I wasn’t using it objectively. It was a “mock etymology”.

I’m not a native English speaker, and didn’t know that “fraid not”(without “I’m”) existed. Gotta love Google.

I almost included Irena, which I like a lot, instead, but went with Irene because it hasn’t quite shed its dated feeling for me.
