Although Rey is a Star Wars female protagonist, I don't know enough about the series to say that it screams the series. I don't have that association. My fist thought was actually of a middle-aged man. Its a cool name for a boy or girl, but I prefer the Ray spelling for guys and the Rae one for girls. I think it would throw English speakers off if spelled with an E. Its a cute nickname. Its okay-ish as a full name.
I like Rey short for Reynold or Reyna the best. : )

I do think of Star Wars, but on a male the association fades and Rey as Spanish for king becomes stronger. I like the sound of it.

Ray looks brighter and better; I much prefer Roy. I'm not familiar with any Star Wars connection, but it wouldn't attract me.
