Noel (“NOLE”) for a boy is better than
Noël (“no-WELL”) for a girl, but I can’t say I like either very much.
In today’s digital world the trema above the ë might not always be possible, especially on government forms and IDs in predominantly English-speaking countries. Without it, the pronunciation changes. Plus, both names are a bit dated now. They feel like something you’d have seen on a kid in the 70s or 80s. And the kid is going to spend their entire life with people asking them if they were born around
Christmas. If the answer is no, it’s a bit strange (mostly for
Noël). If the answer is yes, that might have been something they would have preferred to keep secret. Many adults don’t like to draw attention to their birthday.
