[Opinions] Arizona
I am using this as the name of the main character of a book that I'm writing, and I wanted some thoughts on it.“It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.” - Andre Gide

For a character, it's fine. IRL, I'm not sure it works.

I’ve always loved this name. Arizona was the main character in the first play I ever wrote (or attempted to write, anyway!)

I don't care for it

I actually really like Arizona! Zona was the name of a few turn-of-the-century actresses, so Arizona calls to mind a wise-cracking old dame who lives out west. There's also the model Arizona Muse, who was born in Tucson: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arizona_Muse

Not a fan, it's choppy and bland. Among the U.S. state names, this is the worst. I'd recommend Ari or Arietty. ( If you are fond of the nickname.)

I went to school with an Arizona. They called her "Zone" sometimes. I didn't really like her, but it's not an awful name.

Sorry, I only see it as a dog name. Too weird otherwise.

Vintage pop; late 1960s I think. Click on this; it should be on Youtube somewhere too. It's about a wannabe hippie girl who isn't very good at it yet; the singer really likes her but wishes she'd go mainstream because that's how he feels comfortable!https://songmeanings.com/songs/view/3530822107858580058/

I used to have a neighbor lady named Arizona. She was probably in her sixtis when I knew her, she's gone now. She had no family connection to the state of Arizona, so far as I know. She also had a twin sister whose name was ... Betty.
Everyone called her Miss Arizona, which made her sound like a beauty pageant winner. Which she probably could have been, she was a very pretty lady.So yeah, it could work as a character name, just that it's quite unusual and you'd expect there to be some kind of backstory.
