The meaning of "Wellington" is SO COOL that I checked two separate sources just to make sure they both agreed. The name means: "one who came from the village of the heathen temple in the glade".
Here's a breakdown of the etymology of "Wellington" for you:
Wellington comes from the Old English word, "Weolingatun", literally meaning "settlement", "village", "town" (that's the "tun" part) of the "Weolingas" -- a tribal name apparently derived from the Old English word "weoh" (meaning "pagan temple") and "leah" (a clearing in the woods, a "glade").
Great choice of a name, Ulrika. I love it! :)

Thank you!!!
Wow, that was a great meaning! Actually it's perfect for me to have a son called Wellington because I'm a geographer and work with cityplanning here in Stockholm.

Tell the City Planning Board that Stockholm needs more pagan temples! :)

Just you? What about me, the witch? What about the other Neopagans around, like the ones in my Wicca & Neopaganism class?

So, Phyllis, are you planning to name your firstborn male child "Wellington"? ;) If you have twin boys, you can name one "Wellington" and the other one "Wilton Glen" (which is an anagram of Wellington). And then call them "Welly" and "Willy" for short. :)
