I don't know why, but to me ...
Skyler is totally a guy name, and so is
Schuyler. Surnamey.
Skyler is a simplified spelling of
Schuyler and seems sort of preppy-trendy. Goes with names like
Tyler,
Dawson,
Preston,
Fletcher.
But
Skylar is totally a gal name, and it "is" Skylark without the k, legitimized by
Skyler. Goes with names like -
Savanna,
Sloane,
Sage,
Kai,
Wren,
Sienna. Maybe also
Reese,
Avery.
I feel like I say them slightly differently.
Skylar is like collar,
Skyler is like caller ... it may be that the difference can't be heard by someone listening to me say them! but I feel sure that different neurons are firing in my brain when I say them - they feel like different names. It's like the difference between
Alex (
Alexander /
Alexandra) and
Alix (
Alice).
