My guilty pleasure for a boy, and I love it on a girl too. It does sound kind of old-fashioned though. There are other names ending in -ney that I like: Courtney, Britney (unrelated) and Bethaney (alternate spelling).
Courtney sounds better than Whitney in my opinion, especially for a boy.
