[Opinions] Tenebrae
I'm reading Thomas Pynchon's Mason & Dixon, a novel written in the style of an 18th-century epic about the astronomers who lent their names to the Mason-Dixon line here in the U.S. One of the characters is a young woman named Tenebrae (Latin for "darkness"), and I'm totally taken by it. It's obviously whimsical, but the darkness of the meaning adds gravitas. Plus, Tennie is an adorable nickname. What do you think?

I like Tenebrae. I grew up in a medical family, so I do get the vertebrae association, but that also makes it feel very familiar to me. It’s still far off enough for me to see it as a regular name though.
The nickname Tennie though 😭🖐 It doesn’t just make me imagine a tennis ball, but a person with shaved green hair that looks like a tennis ball.

Yeah. Tennie sounds like a shoe.
It looks like a medical term. Like vertebra. I really can't get past that association.
Tennie as a nickname is adorable though!

The brae part of the name is very reminiscent of some invented names, such as Braden/Brayden and Braelyn. So I take a natural disliking towards Tenebrae. The sound is just awful. The first part of the name is...just okay, even the nickname, although it almost sounds like someone asking for a ten dollar bill. /:
