[Opinions] Re: Maryla
in reply to a message by )(
Aniela is a bit dusty and fragile but it was easily reframed as light and ethereal. And the obvious angelic connotation always worked to its adventage. Maryla is definitely down to earth, sounds harsher and has only really two connotations for most people: Marilla (Maryla in Polish) from Anne of Green Gables, and Maryla Rodowicz, the very famous but now elderly and somewhat eccentric singer. So far the name isn't showing any growth tendencies and hasn't exceeded 25 babies a year since 2000 at least. That all said, Jagna is a trendy name now and to me it's equally as unattractive as Maryla. Sure, I wouldn't want pictures of Maryla Rodowicz to be the only thing showing up when googling my kid's name but I don't think Jagna from the Knights Templar adaptations is any better. And yet.https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/109883
