What do you think of Psyche? Could it ever work at this day and age? What would you use as a middle name, and what would you name a brother and sister?
You don't have to answer all of these questions, I just wanted to post something beyond, "What do you think...?".

I don't think the pronunciation issue is too bad - given that the word 'psyche' is pronounced the same way, at least in my accent, and Greek mythology names being on the rise. Teasing might be a problem, but it's not like kids don't tease kids with perfectly normal names, either.
For middles, I'd go with something more familiar in case the kid wants to go by something else, but still with a nice meaning/asociation. For example: Grace, Matilda, or Olivia.
For siblings, I'm thinking either another mythology name, a name with similar sounds, or a Shakespearean name. For boys: Zephyr, Sinclair, or Orlando. For girls: Hero, Ariadne, or Celia. I think Sinclair, Psyche, and Hero sound nicely together.

The most famous real woman I know of named Psyche was Psyche Cattell (1893-1989), who was a daughter of James McKeen Cattell, a professor at Columbia University who was one of the most prominent academic psychologists in the United States at the start of the 20th century. Psyche Cattell herself became a psychologist and an expert on the intelligence of young children and their education. When I taught a course in the History of Psychology she was always mentioned as one of the first prominent women in the history of psychology. (She was also one of the first single women in the USA ever to legally adopt a child.) Because of my knowledge of her, I think of Psyche as a very useable name which would be suitable for the child of modern feminist parents.

Especially given the time period. It might be a bit much now, but then? It fit with the times and it has a neat connection.

Same person. Sorry, I wasn't thinking and replied too quickly. I can't edit. My phone is broken at the moment and I forgot my email passowrd. Fun fact: I chose Vigdis from a book - Gunnar's Daughter. (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6226.Gunnar_s_Daughter) She isn't that likable of a character, but I dug the name.

It's awkward because it's a word (yet not a word name exactly), but I think if it was used as a celebrity baby name or a famous character name or put on a bunch of "quirky but cool" online babyname lists, it could catch on like Atlas did. I've always liked it as a mythological character name...way better than Echo or Eros, at least, and it seems less of a cat or dog name to me than Nike would.

I very much wish this name was usable because I like the sound and the deep history but alas I don’t think it is. At least in countries where the psych- is used in relation to mental health or psychology.

I really like it and I wish it was able to make it into the mainstream. I think because of the connection to Mental Health there could be some bullying potential. Psycho etc. But I do really like it at it's core. And has a classical beauty air to it imo.

Well actually I don't really particularly agree with psych either because it just is an abridgement for psychological and similar mental state words. There shouldn't be something innately taboo about Mental Health.

Psychics are, for the most part, frauds who seek out vulnerable individuals who are looking for guidance and offering them information that either applies to everyone on Earth (you'll meet a dark, handsome stranger? Most people do at least once a week!) or derived from Google searches or social media scrolling. And that's the association I - and, I imagine, many other people - have.
And psych is, in addition to being short for psychology and psychiatry, a term for psychodelic rock music. And as an adjective, it usually comes in the conjunction "psych ward".

I'm sorry you feel that way. You've clearly never met a genuine one then. There are those that sincerely see the future & sincerely want to help others. The scam artists aren't the real deal.

Just because something doesn't have evidence yet doesn't mean it doesn't exist. People all over the world believe in a God or Gods. There's no empirical evidence for God either.
For what it's worth, I do have prophetic dreams of stuff that will happen to myself or the people in my life all the time. I consider myself mildly psychic & it frankly hurts my feelings that you would use such aggressive terminology to describe them.

And I do not count myself among them. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, true—but extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Since I have no proof that either God or psychics exist, I do not believe in either.
I don't know the nature of your dreams, but I've also had dreams that have come true. I do not see this as proof that I am psychic. For example, I once dreamt that I had done very badly in an exam, and the very next day I did very badly in an exam. It wasn't because of any prophetic ability on my part—I knew I hadn't prepared properly for the exam. Because I was so stressed about it and knew I was unlikely to do well, this manifested itself in my dream.

It must be nice to assume that you are the standard for everyone else in the world. It would be very convenient indeed to rest easy knowing that your experiences are the default and there are no variations for anyone else. Also, if you are so ridged about empirical Evidence that you would know anecdotal evidence does not count 🤷♀️

I was using an example to illustrate that dreams of stuff that happens to yourself or other people is not proof of psychic abilities.

Nothing I said was a joke, nor did I call you a scam artist or a liar. It doesn't affect others if someone believes they have prophetic dreams. I was referring to professional psychics who charge money to suggest lottery numbers or offer communion with dead relatives.

I think most names are usable, and I love Psyche's force and unconventional (by today's standards) glamor.
Psyche Eloise, Psyche Bernadette, and Psyche Winifred come to mind first.

No, I don't think this would ever work for a name; I doubt it ever did, not even when people were much more literate about classical mythology and there was a fashion for naming your kids classical names.

I'm not trying to start anything, but there is a huge uptick in naming kids after mythology. Rick Riordan and Harry Potter helped create this trend. Atlas ranks at 149, Penelope 23, Odin 327, and Persephone 775 (it hit the charts in 2019 at 922.)
I would roll my eyes at a Psyche but I wouldn't be surprised to come across one.

Could it work? Yes. It's not to my taste and I suspect that it would come with a LOT of baggage. My name, Haven, is difficult enough to explain. I can't imagine trying to explain Psyche. Add in the "Psych" part and it's perfect for teasing.
I'd go all out.
