I've always seen Marion as a masc name. I have a male friend from Romania named that.

Interesting! I honestly had no idea that Marion has usage in Romania. I also know a 66 year old man called Marion, from the Southeastern US. Yet, I’ve mainly known women called Marion and Marian. I could see it being used for a boy, but it sounds very feminine to me; I don’t know why that it does. Maybe since Marion sounds very close to “Mary” in my tongue. I don’t think that Marion is only a girl name, but I do get a feminine impression. Due to that, I’d only personally use it for a girl. Though, I bet your friend suits the name very well, whatever his personality is! The 66 year old man used to be a baseball coach, and loved to wrestle; so, that’s the impression I get of male Marion.
