[Opinions] Koda?
I stumbled across Koda the other day, and it seems to be on the rise. Does anybody know why? The site says it was inspired by Brother Bear, bit that can’t be the full story because it came out in 2003 and it is one of the least popular Disney movies. For what it’s worth it sounds like a dog name.

I think it's the updated version of Dakota / Kody. It's got an A ending like Noah, Ezra, Jonah, Koa...Those things and a Disney movie seem like enough reason to me, whether it came out 20 years ago or not...it got exposure, and it's a familiar sound yet different. I like it, personally.

A "least popular Disney movie" is still going to likely be a popular movie to some kind of audience - $250,000,000 box office gross in 2003 (~$400,000,000 today). The name's rise correlates to ~15ish years after the film came out, when one-time kids who may have grown up with it would be likely to start having kids. That said, I don't know - is there a celebrity who named their kid Koda? There's a Koda who played in pro baseball for a brief time (2016-18); Koda Kumi, the Japanese singer (who is a woman); Koda CrossFit? I don't know where else this name would arise from. That said, this sounds like a lesser Cody and I already think Cody is played out and was never great to begin with. I concur with your assessment: appropriate for a pet.

I imagine it's because it shares a similarity in sound to Dakota, which was also trendy once (perhaps still is? 🤷‍♀️) That and the fact that it fits right in with the whole 4 letter, 2 syllable naming trend. The long O sound also helps it, I think. I like it, but wouldn't use it, and I can see how it sounds like a dog's name. 🙂
