Message: "Scotty" - Behind the Name

Today at work I encountered a woman named Scotty, which I don't know if it's her real name or a nn. I also know of another woman named Scotty. What could Scotty be a nn for?
I do know that F. Scott Fitzgerald's daughter was also named Frances Scott and her nn was Scottie.
But in first two instances, I can only assume it's a nn and am wondering what they could be nns for.

I'd assume it wasn't a nn, just a masculine name made into a feminine one like Billie, Bobbie, etc. My ln is Scott, and my father is often called Scotty (his fn is Franklin) so I don't see it as very feminine at all. :P

Well, something completely off-topic, but just yesterday my sister was talking about a boy named Scott Ness, which I thought was very funny, as he is Scottish. It's just so over the top imo.

My friend's name is Scotie but it's not a nickname. m

If I could find my ancient baby name book, I know it said something about it in there, but it's disappeared. I'll come back when I've found it. lol

My guess is that the nickname comes not from a formal name but from pop culture or something. Meaning it's referencing a (possibly male) character, "Scotty." Or it comes from nowhere, or it is somehow related to her surname. I don't thik there are any girls' names that could produce "Scotty" as a nickname.
