Judy is great. I don't like it as much as Trudy, but it's snappy and fun.
I think it could come back. It's retro now. I've never known a Judy, even an elderly one!
These kinds of names are making a comeback. I heard of two baby Ruths being born to cool young parents recently, so if Ruth is coming back I wouldn't be surprised if Judy follows. A friend of mine also tried to talk her husband into Betty if their second had been a girl. These kinds of beatnik sort of names are fringe popular and admired!
I prefer Judith in full with Judy for a nickname, because I am greedy, and I find Judith satisfyingly dramatic and artsy. I think it does work on its own though!
