[Opinions] Apollonia/Apolonia
What are your thoughts on Apollonia / Apolonia? Do you prefer one or two Ls? What do you think of the nickname Pola?

Replies

I like Apollonia, but I don't love it. I prefer the double Ls since it connects it better with the Greek god Apollo meaning.
Not a fan of Pola.I keep seeing Apolonia popping up in my Polish genealogy groups and secretly hope I'll find an ancestor named Apolonia one of these days.
I don't like either form or how they sound. Apollo does not sound good feminized, but I like Apolla more than these. Pola makes sense as a NN, but it's not particularly pretty or cute on its own.
The one L makes me uncomfortable so 2.The name is too fancy for me and Pola is ok. Nia is better.
I prefer the spelling Apollonia. I like how it's very dramatic and elegant, though I might prefer Apolline because the end of Apollonia sometimes makes me think just a bit of bologna. I think Pola is an alright nickname. I've met an Apolline, and if I remember correctly (which I very well may not), she was sometimes called Apple.
Don't like the name, but I think it's best with 2 LL's
Definitely Apollonia. Not that I'd use it or expect to see that someone else has used it, but at least it doesn't contain polony.
Sometimes I feel a tad creeped out by names like this - that refer to ancient myths and gods.
If I put that aside, Apollonia is a nice enough name. I don't love it. I like 2 L's better.
In English is it apol-LO-nia or a-POL-lo-NEE-a? I feel like I've heard the first one, but not sure.
Pola is neat, I like that. It makes more sense with the second prn.
It's the first pron.
I always assumed it was the first one.
It's quite elegant, and I think it should be more common. I prefer Apollonia, it seems more complete. Pola is okay as a nickname, but I vastly opt for Nia.
It's gorgeous and so evocative. I strongly prefer Apollonia, and I like the nickname Pola a lot.
I know two Apollonia’s! Both go by the nickname PollyI prefer the two Ls. With one I think it looks like the name of a mountain. Pola is not my style
Wow, cool! I found some Apolonias in my family tree, but I'm not sure I've met one. I have met a Pola, and I'm not sure whether that's her given name or not.
