Five years have passed. For a little element of unpredictability, I’ve been randomly generating the genders of new additions, which is why some families might seem somewhat unbalanced (just like real life)!
Family 1 - London, EnglandDH [33]: Evander Thomas Calderbrook Hazelden (Genevieve)
DW [33]: Madelina Daffodil "Lina" Hazelden, née Dunhill-Missington (Lumi)
DS1 [4]: Sandro Thomas David Hazelden (RowenaRavenclaw)
DD1 [1]:
Evander eventually convinced Lina to name their firstborn son after his beloved Botticelli (and, incidentally, after his own biography of of Botticelli, entitled
Sandro). In return, he promised that Lina — whose somewhat outlandish taste had favoured ‘Rembrandt’ for their son — could have free rein over the first name of their daughter, born a year ago. Sandro, much to Evander’s mostly-concealed disappointment, has not shown much inclination towards art as of yet, instead preferring to play ‘builders’ with his toy trucks and bricks. Lina hopes he’ll find a lucrative career in real estate; Evander fears he may become a common bricklayer. When asked, Sandro asserts that he wants to be ‘the moon’ when he grows up.
DD1’s first name is an unusual noun or adjective name; her first middle name is her paternal grandmother’s name, short and old-fashioned; her second middle name was popular in the 1920s. She has her father’s surname.
Family 2 - New York City, NYDH [38]: Pierre Sabri Amjad (Laura B.)
DW [39]: Cristina Svetlana Nancy Amjad, née Buono (Nix)
DD1 [9]: Lili Maïssa Francisca Amjad (Wordsmith)
DD2 [6]: Esti Amore Laila Amjad (Darkbone)
DD3 [3]:
DD4 [exp]:
After much deliberation, Pierre and Cristina eventually settled on NYC as the place to raise their children. Lili and Esti are enrolled at a private school with twin focuses on academic success and creative pursuits; Cristina has opened a brick-and-mortar storefront for her vintage designer bridal boutique. Pierre continues to fly frequently between New York and Paris, as well as other European locations, and he often takes his ‘little princesses’ with him. Lili and Esti have a younger sister already, and another one on the way.
DD3’s first name matches
Lili and
Esti in energy, without being too similar; her first middle name is tied to a fashion designer/house (one of Cristina’s favourites); her second middle name is a five-letter Arabic name. She has her father’s surname.
DD4’s first name is again similar to her older sisters’, but not too matchy; her first middle name is a long Italian name; her second middle name has recently been popular in France. She has her father’s surname.
Family 3 - Geneva, SwitzerlandDH [46]: Oskar Juste Messerli (Cinnabar)
DW [35]: Reva Messerli, née Kumar (Amoret)
DH’s DS [13]: Nico Florian Messerli (cher529s)
DD1 [4]:
DS1 [2]:
Oskar and Reva have welcomed two children, a son and a daughter, but it looks like there might be trouble in paradise. Since having her children, Reva has started to tire of life in Geneva, longing for her family’s sprawling Indian estate or the sunshine of California, where she attended university. Oskar insists that they can’t leave Geneva, citing the issue of his custody agreement with Nico’s mother. Reva, however, thinks that Oskar could certainly pay a lawyer to find a way around this if he wanted to, and he’s using this as an excuse to keep her trapped in Switzerland. Nico, for his part, would be delighted if his step-mother packed up her noisy little brats, hopped on a plane to India, and never came back.
DD1’s first name is a hyphenation of a short name currently popular in Switzerland, and a 3-/4-letter Hindi name. Her middle name is a long German name. She has her father’s surname.
DS1’S first name is, similarly, a hyphenation of a short name currently popular in Switzerland, and a 3-/4-letter Hindi name. His middle name is French. He has his father’s surname.
Family 4 - London, England / Saffron Walden, EnglandExH [41]: Peregrine Cuthbert Oliver Braswell (molly)
ExW [40]: Charity Fairbairn Olayinka (Lumi)
DD1 [7]: Helena Dayo Scarlett Braswell-Olayinka (ari.)
DD2/DS1 [3]:
ExH’s DGF [25]:
Peregrine and Charity welcomed twins three years ago. The children were born into the eye of a hurricane - just a month before, a tabloid newspaper published exclusive photos of Peregrine getting cosy with his blonde twenty-something costar at his latest TV project’s wrap party. A week later, asked to comment upon the situation, Peregrine’s aristocratic father went on a tirade which managed to denigrate both Charity and the other woman, and was widely condemned as misogynistic, racist, and generally bigoted. Peregrine and Charity maintained a silent, united public front until the twins were six months old — although in reality, Charity and the children had moved in with Charity’s parents — at which point they announced they were seeking a divorce. Charity has moved to a different charming-and-expensive English town to focus on raising the children; Peregrine gave it a year and then shacked up in London with the blonde actress at the heart of the scandal.
DD2’s first name is a single-syllable English name; her first middle name is Yoruba; her second middle name is that of a mythological figure. She has her father’s surname hyphenated with her mother’s.
DS1’s first name is found on this list (
https://www.britishbabynames.com/blog/2022/12/most-popular-names-in-the-telegraph-2022.html); his first middle name is Yoruba; his second middle name is Fairbairn. He has his father’s surname hyphenated with his mother’s.
ExH’s DGF’s first name was very common in England in 2004; her middle name is a typical ‘filler’ name; her surname is ranked 250-500 in England & Wales.
