[Opinions] Actually pregnant now :)
Hi all, finally coming on here with name questions for a real baby! It's a boy (but that's not public knowledge so if you know who I am IRL, don't reveal the gender)The first name is likely to be Robin because that's the one we're agreeing on most. Still open to other first names though. Some that are still on the list but the dad isn't super enthusiastic about are Ronan, Sylvan, and Kieran.
We both really like the middle name Peregrine, but I don't think a kid would want to have two bird names. Any thoughts, especially middle name ideas for Robin or other first name suggestions?

Replies

Congrats! I utterly adore Robin for a boy!
The only name I can think to suggest is Larkin, same ending letters as Robin, Lark is also a bird and both names are Medieval English nicknames (Robert = Robin; Lawrence = Larkin). My favorite middles for it..Robin Nathaniel
Robin Tobias
Robin Jerome
Robin Casper
Robin Leopold
Robin Emmanuel
Robin Cedric
Robin Cornelius
Robin Sylvester
Robin Percy
Robin Timothy
Robin Devereux
Robin Dimitri
Robin Isadore
Robin Philip
Robin Xavier
Robin Elwood
Robin Ferdinand (similar meaning to Peregrine?)
We brought up Cedric a couple times and I sort of vetoed it because I thought everyone would think of Cedric Diggory, but I still like the idea of Cedric or Cerdic.
Isadore made the list recently too!
Congratulations! Robin is a lovely name and how many people actually use their middle name? Peregrine works well.
Congrats! Robin is very cute, but I personally don’t like it paired with Peregrine. What about Robin Chester, Robin Quincy, Robin Elliott, Robin Edmund, Robin Terrence, Robin Oliver, Robin Patrick, Robin Abel, Robin Archie, Robin Seth, Robin Dexter, Robin Darcy, Robin Frederick, Robin George, Robin Hugo, Robin Jude, Robin Justus, Robin Joseph, Robin Kingsley, Robin Lawrence, Robin Leopold, Robin Vincent, Robin Michael, Robin Maxwell, Robin Xavier.
I like these but they have too much overlap with people we know: Robin Elliott, Robin Seth, I'd consider these: Robin Edmund, Robin Terrence, Robin Oliver, Robin Leopold, Robin Vincent, Robin MichaelI haven't thought of these but I think they're good: Robin Quincy, Robin Patrick, Robin Frederick, Robin Hugo, Robin Joseph, Robin Maxwell, Robin Lawrence
I am unconvinced the boy will know Peregrine is a bird until much much later and even then, he might not. I had no idea that Peregrine was a bird - a normal, non-bird person would just call the thing a "falcon" and that's it. The only birds people know actual names of are like Robins, Doves, Pigeons (I know these are doves, but most people will have no idea. "rats with wings" they call them which is a real shame, I like pigeons. They argue that they shit everywhere and its like??? all animals shit everywhere Dave - your dog is literally shitting on the carpet right now) and maybe like the Dodo and Falcons / Hawks (they will not know the difference), and of course the Titbird based upon the name alone tl;dr the kid will likely not know or care in my opinion. If he's anything like my brother, he might not know off the top of his head what his middle name actually is Robin Peregrine is a fine combo. It might not be my taste, but the combo worksHowever, here are some names you might like based upon your listed names; Lawrence
Lysander
Julian
Jasper
Aloysius
Saxon
Gabriel
Willoughby
Clement
He'll probably learn a lot of birds growing up with a bird nerd with birder friends haha.I like Lysander, Julian, Jasper, and Gabriel as middle names for Robin too.
Robin is so cute! I love robins.I think Robin Peregrine would honestly be fine, but as an alternative, how about Robin Peregrin? Just one letter less, and it's not a bird. You could also do Robert Peregrine "Robin". Robin Perry would be so adorable, as a variation on Peregrine.
I like Peregrin too but I think Peregrine looks better for some reason.
My dad's name is Robert, I can't see it on a baby but Robin is a bit of a family name reference already!
I like these!Robin Alaric
Robin Bennett
Robin Alistair
Robin Declan
Robin Emerson
Congratulations!! Robin is a gorgeous name, up there as one of my favourite unisex names of all time. Peregrine is awesome too (of course haha), but I think two bird names is probably a lot, and I’d personally avoid it. That being said, middle names aren’t used all that much in day to day life anyway, so I’d say it’s not the end of the world by any means if you did use it. More suggestions:
Robin Perry / Peri
Robin Alexander
Robin Ezekiel
Robin Leander
Robin Laurence / Lawrence
Robin Keegan
Robin Leif
Robin Keir
Robin Alastair
Robin Kurt
Robin Kenneth
Robin Leon
Robin Stellan

Good luck! :)

I like these most. Some of them won't work because of last names or people we know but:
Adair - just added this
Alistair - was on the list in the form of Alastair
Gerard
Evander
Ignatius
Jasper
Matthias - also on the list but I haven't even picked which pronunciation I'd want if we used it
Nathaniel
Silvanus (I have Silvanos on the list because I was worried about the "anus" at the end of Silvanus)
Tariel - I haven't seen this one before
Thaddeus
Theseus
Victor
Vincent
Good list, I especially like Nathaniel, Vincent, Gareth, Caradoc, and Everard
Congratulations!Robin Ellis
Robin Hollis
Robin Anders
Robin Adler
Robin Alder
Robin Brooks
Robin Conway
Robin Conrad
Robin Fletcher
Robin Garnet
Robin Harlan
Robin Lowell
Robin Leland
Robin Irving
Robin Sterling
Robin Archer
Robin Asher
Robin Vincent
* I really like the name Sylvan.
Alder is definitely on the list! You got me thinking about Conrad now for sure, also Asher and Ash. I didn't think I liked Asher enough to consider it but it does sound good with Robin. I think I had Vincent on the list before and it was already vetoed
Lots of good ideas here!I love the sound of Casimir but was hesitating on it because it looks like it means "destroy the world" or "destroy peace" haha. Or am I misinterpreting how the element meanings were meant to combine?
There's some disagreement about the meaning of the "cas" part, apparently, but if we assume it means "to destroy" then yes, it would mean "destroyer of peace". I can see why that would make you hesitate.
I would have used Robin if I'd had an extra son! My mn thoughts, back in the day, were Robin Gregor or Robin Gregory; Robin Alastair; Robin Victor Conrad (my kids got 3 names each); I liked Robin Douglas, but a friend at uni was Robin, surname Douglas, so that was out. Robin Keith? Just watch out for mns starting with vowels: Robin Alastair, for instance, is excellent unless your surname is Taylor. I knew someone, unfortunately a woman, whose initials were DAD. Hmmm - or you could go the 2-mn route and consider Robin James Peregrine. Anyway, be aware that brand-new babies are capable of NOT looking like the name their parents chose for them: my daughter was all set to be Lucy until I saw her, and it clearly wouldn't do. So I sat down with a Names book and started going through the alphabet until I discovered that she looked like a Caroline. Very strange, but it happens. My delighted congratulations, whatever the name may be - just enjoy him!
Thanks! I would be tempted to add a second middle name but he's already getting two last names and I don't want the name to get too long. Alastair is definitely an option.
Robin Alastair is very handsome!Ps. Congratulations, Dracotorix!

Congratulations! Robin Peregrine sounds lovely. I don't think it is a problem to have two birds names. They're both a little bit less in your face bird names than what for example a combo like "Hawk Sparrow" would be.
Fn suggestions:Jasper
Rowan
Roman
Aubrey
Emrys
Brennan
Florian
Roderick
Callum
Perrin
Owen
Roland
Ambrose
Robin Sylvester
Robin Evander
Robin Percival
Robin Sebastian
Robin Auberon
Robin Laurence
Robin Eliott
Robin Thaddeus
Robin Oscar
Robin Oswin
Robin Graham
The more I think about it the more I'm thinking Robin Peregrine might not be too birdy after all!Jasper - I like this, feels better as a middle name to me
Rowan - I was hoping to use this for a girl in the future (if this kid's name doesn't start with R)
Emrys - I love this but my first name starts with Em. Maybe a middle name?
Brennan - This was my first choice and it got vetoed!
Perrin - This could be an option
Owen - I like this, I can't remember if I already brought it up or not
Roland - I like Roland, not sure if Rolands usually end up as "Roly"
Ambrose - I think this would be on the list if not for the KKC character I like these combos-
Robin Evander
Robin Percival
Robin Sebastian
Robin Auberon
Robin Laurence
Robin Eliott
Robin Thaddeus
Robin Percival has a lovely ring to it.
Congratulations.
No suggestions, but the name Robin is on my mind just right now because of seeing the mayor of Dover, Delaware on the news tonight. His name, first and last, is Robin Christopher. Poor man probably grew up on Winnie the Pooh jokes.
I didn’t make the Winnie the Pooh connection until you mentioned it.
I really like Robin. It's classic and warm and ages well. From your PNL:Robin Alastair
Robin Branwell
Robin Elias
Robin Faramund
Robin Leofric
Robin Matthias
Robin Parsifal
Robin Silas
Robin TiberiusYou might like Soren or Stellan?
I like lots of these! Branwell got vetoed already and we know a baby named Tiberius. Not sure about Stellan but I do like Soren, just not sure if it's usable because we know people with the same name. Maybe that's inevitable though.
