[Opinions] Re: Opions on name Oaklynn?
in reply to a message by Pavel
Oaklynn and Oakley are both pretty unpopular with people on the forum, but in the "real world" they are liked by plenty of people.I'm not sure where the Oak- trend came from. Maybe it started with people using the Oakley surname, which is famous in North America because of Annie Oakley. And I guess it was an easy transition to turn -ley into -lynn. Maybe Oaklynn gets judgement because it's like a double-trendy name; it's based on a surname AND it's part of the -lynn trend, which a lot of people are really tired of. I kinda like Oakley and Oaklynn as guilty pleasures. They are hokey and ugly, but I find that endearing. I have a soft spot for them. I find them impossible to combo, though. Everything just looks wrong to me.

Oakley DorianJust curious. I feel like they potentially go with lots of things but that they do look weird next to some names.
I think the "wrongness" of the Oak combos is just a personal thing; because the names are so unlike my usual style, I'm not skilled at working with them. It's just not my first instinct to choose from a pool of more modern names, so I keep trying to jam Oakley into a Victorian dress like I always do, and of COURSE it looks wrong.I like Oaklynn Junia a bit - I think I might prefer Oaklynn June more though. Oaklynn Talia, Oaklynn Aziza, and Oaklynn Miracle do have that "wrong" vibe to me.I like Oakley Mavis, Oakley Adelaide, and Oakley Faye; that last one actually does really work well! I think Oakley could be nice if I leaned into the whole Wild Bill Hickok thing, because it does have some twang. Maybe Oaklynn too? Let's try:Oaklynn Sadie
Oaklynn Mabel
Oaklynn Jessie
Oaklynn BillieOakley Ida
Oakley Nell
Oakley NorahOk, ok, I'm getting into it! These look more "right" to me.I hadn't considered Oakley on a boy but now that I have, I quite like it. But only Oakley Wendel looks ok to me.
I like Oaklynn Talia
