[Facts] Name update #118
Lots of new names added, primarily from user submissions.Change logs:
https://www.behindthename.com/update/118 (given names)
https://surnames.behindthename.com/update/118 (surnames)
https://places.behindthename.com/update/118 (place names)I'm starting work on the next batch right away. I'd like to make it to 30,000 names by January 6th, which is this site's 30th anniversary!

Thank you for everything you do! This is one of the best sites on the internet, and I mean that genuinely.

Big, big, BIG congratulations, Mike! Maybe you cou could try to add Vojmil, despite it being very rare/archaic in almost all countries.

Thank you! I noticed that Everardo has been added under Spanish names but the entry itself says "Sanish" form of Everard instead of "Spanish" form of Everard. Could that be fixed please? Thank you.

Will fix, thanks!

30 years old and still going strong!! Here's to another 30 years!!!

Sites being older than me always messes with my head a little. It's reasonable, it makes sense, but it's hard to fathom somehow. I'll be 29 next year for reference. But anyway that's really great!!!!

Thank you for the names, Mike

Hey, my contributions to the surnames Snyder and Jones got added, nice! Also, I'm glad you expanded the meaning of Madison to include the alternate meaning "son of Matthew".I think for the next update, you should add the remaining presidential surnames - Polk, Fillmore, Coolidge, Eisenhower (and also add the original German form Eisenhauer) and Biden, and also add the given name Rutherford - the only presidential given name not here currently. Plus, change Trump to mention how it was (allegedly) Anglicised from Drumpf/Trumpf.

I just noticed Marion has it's own entry for men from the surname separate from Marion the woman's name. Would you consider doing the same for Evelyn? Evelyn was also an alternative spelling of the woman's name Eveline while Evelyn for men was from the surname. And Reese? For girls Reese comes from a surname too. Does it only matter if it's archaic gendered usage?

Generally I only split names into separate entries if it's helpful for clarity. I don't think Evelyn needs this. Reese should probably have a note that it can be used via a surname. As for Marion, perhaps it doesn't need separate entries...?

Marion is the odd one out I think, might make sense to combine.

By the way, I have suggestions for the next update:-A way to know which names from your PNLs have been deleted after an update. In my case 11 have been removed and I want to find replacements.-Adding names which appear in popularity rankings, especially those that are in the higher spots.-Adding usages to names based on their appearance in popularity charts. For instance, Anthony, Marjorie, Cathy and Tiffany aren't rare at all in France; the same applies to Mirella in Hungary, Bianca in Spain, etc.Minor corrections:-Evelia as a feminine form of Evelio.
-Kristiyana as a form of Christiana and not Christina.
-Joselyne seems to be related to Joseline rather than Jocelyne (https://www.behindthename.com/name/joseline/top/france?compare=Joselyne&type=percent&submitted=yes, although, is Joseline derived from Jocelyn?)
-Osmar seems to be a blend of Óscar or Osvaldo and Omar. I don't see a connection to the Anglo-Saxon name Osmær. In fact, blended names (and/or elements) aren't unusual in Latin America (cf. Maricela, Edmar, Luzmila, Mariángel, Josiel...).Once again, thank you.

QuoteA way to know which names from your PNLs have been deleted after an update. In my case 11 have been removed and I want to find replacements.
For next time I'll create a routine that will automatically replace moved submitted names on PNLs with the new main DB name. This does happen now (eventually) but there is a delay between it being deleted from the submitted side and PNLs being updated.
QuoteAdding names which appear in popularity rankings, especially those that are in the higher spots.
That was indeed a focus for this update, and probably for the next couple updates.
QuoteAdding usages to names based on their appearance in popularity charts. For instance, Anthony, Marjorie, Cathy and Tiffany aren't rare at all in France; the same applies to Mirella in Hungary, Bianca in Spain, etc.
For names that are recent borrowings, I definitely look for a strong pattern of usage before adding an additional usage. I'll have a look at these suggestions, plus the corrections you listed. Thanks!

I don't have trouble with the names that get added to the main database since they automatically get replaced, although the routine is a nice improvement. I meant deleted submitted names in general (and occasionally those in the main DB). A notification system would be ideal. By the way, is it possible to see which names from your PNL have been removed via the page for deleted names?

Great! I've checked which charts have unlinked names. The US, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Brazil, France, Israel, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Tunisia and Turkey have many of them.

I have noticed strong patterns in the charts of Latvia, Netherlands, France, Brazil and Czechia, among others. Fortunately, there are also other sites that give a more accurate view regarding a name's popularity (https://www.behindthename.com/bb/admin/5557219).Hope this helps!

Vastly agree with knowing when names have been removed and adding usage based on popularity charts!
